In summer 2021 I decided to make some of the Elderflower wine mentioned in ‘The Best of James Herriot’ book. It is listed alongside the colourful story of James Herriot and Mr Crump tasting his home-made wines in the farmhouse kitchen after a visit. I didn’t want to post it on here until I had tasted the wine myself – but I did that on Christmas Day 2021. And I must say it was most acceptable! Why not have a go yourself – the ingredients are simple and readily available and it was fun watching it ferment. And as you sip the wine it can transport you back to Mr Crumps kitchen and the merriment they shared together that day.
