Great days ahead in 2023
OK, so you’ve already had a zillion people wish you ‘Happy New Year’ already. I simply wanted to thank you for your interest in my ‘Musings of a James Herriot fan‘ website in 2022 and for opting to receive my occasional posts and news during the year – I hope they have been interesting.
What happened in 2022? Last year saw a new Herriot Book, ‘The Wonderful World of James Herriot‘, A wood planted in Swaledale called ‘Herriots Wood’, a Dales barn renovation supported by Rosie Page (Alfs daughter), and for me the highlight was re-tracing the actual route described in the ‘Youth Hostels’ chapter of Alfs well known book ‘James Herriots Yorkshire’. And of course the new ACGAS TV series.
But what does 2023 hold? Well, there will be more walks and events and website content to interest Herriot enthusiasts. But to set the general tone for us all this year I’d like to refer to the final chapter of another of Alfs books; ‘The Lord God made them all’. Siegfried and James are sat in the garden of Skeldale house reflecting on the past and pondering their future in the changing world at that time. Siegfried ends by saying to James “I tell you this James. there are great days ahead”
And that is the positive message I would like to send to you in this changing and sometimes troubled world. Yes, I wish you ‘great days ahead’ in 2023.
